Actor, comedian and cricket lover to take over from Clare Connor in October

Stephen Fry, the actor and comedian, has been named as the next President of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).Fry, a lifelong cricket supporter, is a patron of the MCC Foundation, and delivered a memorable MCC Cowdrey Lecture last year. Mount's time at United so far

It is fair to say that Mount’s time at United has not been how he nor the fans would have envisaged so far.

The England international joined the club during the 2023 summer window for a fee of £55m plus £5m in add-ons. He is now one of their highest earners, and is reportedly on £250k per week, making him the club’s third-highest earner.

However, his Red Devils career so far has been plagued by injury. Mount has played just 24 times for United, scoring once against Brentford last term, a late goal that was moments away from being a winner.

With that being said, the former Chelsea midfielder, who is a graduate of the esteemed Cobham academy, has missed 178 games and 32 matches through three separate injury issues, with a calf injury the biggest issue last season.

Despite his injury problems, there is no doubting Mount’s quality, and that was on show in just 11 minutes last Wednesday against Twente. The United number seven completed 100% of his passes and created one chance against the Dutch outfit, as per Sofascore.

Mount was described as a “maestro” by football statistician Statman Dave, and it certainly feels like United fans are yet to see the best of him in that famous red shirt. Although he has shown flashes of brilliance, injury issues have hampered his progress so far.

Should he get a start against the Lilywhites, Ten Hag will no doubt hope Mount can put his fitness problems behind him and use the clash against the North London outfit as a catalyst to finding his best form for United.

The transfer window has not long been shut, but already Man United are eyeing potential transfers they could complete either in January or next summer.

According to a report from Spain, pressure is starting to mount on current Manchester United boss Ten Hag, and Ratcliffe has set his sights on replacing the Dutchman with Zinedine Zidane.

Faf du Plessis is gone. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been out to Kagiso Rabada and Umesh Yadav, and run-out once, for single-digit scores. But he did start IPL 2021 in similar fashion and ended up with the Orange Cap. So he could realistically still finish with a lot of runs. Moeen Ali is yet to make a mark. And Ravindra Jadeja is only still finding his feet as everything rolled into one. The bright side is that MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube have found some form with the bat.Bowling-wise, Deepak Chahar is being dearly missed at the top, with the inexperienced Indian pacers not penetrative enough so far. But Dwayne Bravo continues to take key wickets. Só tenho gratidão desde o primeiro dia em que estou aqui. Cheguei com muita desconfiança, mas graças a Deus desde que cheguei aqui conquistei a confiança dos torcedores. Jogando ou não (o veterano começou no banco na final), só tenho que agradecer. E repito, eu e minha família estamos felizes aqui.

Diego Souza enfatizou que o título do Gauchão ‘é a virada motivacional’ que o clube precisa para largar bem na Série B.

– Éuma virada de chave. Fizemos um trabalho maravilhoso esse ano, superamos todas as adversidades que tivemos. É importante termos essa confiança para o campeonato mais importante do ano, que é a Série B

O volante Lucas Silva, outro que ficou no clube após o rebaixamento, garantiu que o foco nos treinamentos foi a receita para a mudança de chave no time.

– Só dentro de campo, só nos treinamentos poderíamos dar a resposta. Isso nos dá um fortalecimento para colocar o Grêmio no lugar onde ele merece. O ano passado foi muito difícil, mas a gente sabia que trabalhando dentro de campo íamos conseguir dar uma resposta ao torcedor. A cada dia fomos aprendendo mais os métodos do Roger (Machado, treinador) e estamos confiantes.

Contestado pela torcida, o volante Thiago Santos foi outro a celebrar o título e pedir foco para o acesso na Série B.

– Parabenizar nossa equipe. Fizemos por merecer. A rapaziada da base veio para nos deixar mais forte e o nosso objetivo maior é voltar para a série. Agora é focar para frente e tenho certeza que faremos mais uma festa grande aqui.

Vice-artilheiro do Estadual com cinco gols em dez jogos, o atacante Elias, revelação tricolor de apenas 20 anos, também apontou o título como fator motivacional para a Segundona.

– Agora é curtir hoje e, amanhã, já focar na Série B, que está próxima. É uma tradição do Grêmio revelar jogadores muito cedo. Estou muito feliz pela garotada dar resultado.

Contratado junto ao Palmeiras, o lateral-esquerdo Diogo Barbosa é outro remanescente do temporada passada, onde o Tricolor também faturou o Estadual, mas acabou rebaixado. No entanto, ele ressalta que esse ano as coisas serão diferentes.

-É importante alcançar esse nível de competitividade agora, às vésperas de se iniciar a Série B. A gente agora vai ter que saber lidar com isso, essa situação de conquistar o Gaúcho, mas eu garanto que vai ser diferente do ano passado. É começar bem a Série B e focar no nosso objetivo, o acesso, que é o mais importante.
