Man Utd could land Weghorst 2.0 by signing "inconsistent" 6 ft 2 talent

With Manchester United currently enduring what has been a rather dismal first few months of the campaign, supporters will likely already be looking ahead to the upcoming January transfer window in the hope of some fresh blood being brought in to bolster the ranks.

The Red Devils were notably particularly active during the winter window earlier this year after snapping up the likes of Marcel Sabitzer, Jack Butland and Wout Weghorst on short-term deals, albeit with the latter man, in particular, failing to fire amid a limp six-month stay at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman – who scored just twice for the club in total in 31 outings – had been brought in to plug the gap following Cristiano Ronaldo's departure, with a striking addition seemingly again required this time around, as Anthony Martial has just six months left to run on his existing contract.

Amid that need for a genuine rival to young Rasmus Hojlund, recent reports have indicated that Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy is of interest to United, even though the 27-year-old could well represent just another Weghorst as far as Erik ten Hag is concerned.

Man Utd transfer news – Serhou Guirassy

As reported by The Guardian's Ed Aarons last week, Ten Hag and co are believed to be interested in signing the Guinea striker and have even made contact with agents regarding a possible swoop in the New Year.

As per the piece, the former Ajax boss is chasing a suitable alternative to Hojlund with the Dane failing to score in the Premier League so far this season, while there is a potential for the club to try and 'find a buyer' for the floundering Martial.

Any deal for Guirassy is likely to be an attractive prospect due to his minimal release clause of just €17m (£15m), albeit with the Red Devils set to face competition from top-flight rivals Newcastle United, who also have the in-form marksman on their winter shortlist.

The stats to show why Man Utd shouldn't sign Serhou Guirassy

On the face of it, the 6 foot 2 brute looks like the perfect, bargain option to help ease United's attacking woes.

Available for as little as £15m, the former Stade Rennais man is among the top forwards in Europe at present with regard to his goalscoring form in 2023/24, having already netted 16 Bundesliga goals this season.

To put that into perspective, that figure is only bettered by former United target Harry Kane (18) in the German top-flight, while in the Premier League, Erling Haaland leads the way with 'just' 14 league goals.

Ruling out signing Guirassy may look rather foolish when the player is currently in such esteemed company, although as data analyst Ben Griffis has suggested, such a hot streak is a result of "xG over-performance" in front of goal.

According to Griffis, the forward's 'over-performance' is seemingly "very unsustainable", while he is also usually "wildly inconsistent" – hardly the words those at the Theatre of Dreams would like to hear.

While the one-time Lille man did net 11 goals in just 22 league games last season for Stuttgart, prior to that he had very much been a middling striker, never scoring more than ten league goals across his entire career in a single campaign.

Equally, as Ten Hag learned with Weghorst, success in the Bundesliga is not always a good judge of a player's talents, with the towering Dutchman, for instance, previously scoring 70 goals in just 144 games for Wolfsburg, prior to his woes at both United and Burnley – for whom he also scored just twice.

Having been stung by the frankly desperate signing of the current Hoffenheim man, the Red Devils must think again before repeating that mistake with regard to Guirassy, with it likely better to wait until the summer in order to land a target with a proven track record over a sustained period.

Liverpool, Man Utd and Real Madrid chasing South American star Redondo

Liverpool are reportedly battling both Manchester United and Real Madrid for the signing of an exciting midfielder who has been hailed as "something special".

Why Liverpool need one more midfielder

Much was made of the manner in which Jurgen Klopp almost completely rebuilt his midfield at the end of last season, with the Reds' struggles last term making it clear that huge changes were required. Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch have made a huge difference, helping Liverpool top the Premier League table at the beginning of 2024.

Despite this, supporters would still like to see another No.6 come in, as although Mac Allister has adjusted well to the role and Endo has proven an astute buy, an out-and-out destroyer like Fulham's Joao Palhinha would add some serious stability. Kalvin Phillips has also been mooted as a target for the Merseysiders, as he looks to bring an end to his disappointing spell at Manchester City this month, but that deal seems unlikely.

It remains to be seen if Klopp will delve into the transfer market for another midfielder this month, but interest in one highly-rated player has emerged.

Liverpool in the mix for Federico Redondo

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are one of the clubs who are keen on signing Federico Redondo, who is currently plying his trade at Argentinos Juniors in Argentina.

"Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid are among the big clubs that are keen on snaring holding-midfield player Federico Redondo. The world’s biggest clubs are constantly seeking to find the best talent around the world. One such prodigy making headlines is Redondo, the dynamic midfielder from Argentinos Juniors."

The report also adds that "Liverpool’s interest in Redondo seems a strategic move to bolster their midfield options", with Klopp's system and style of play "demanding versatility and stamina", which is why he could be a "perfect fit".

Redondo is someone who remains completely untested in European football, but the four-time capped Argentina Under-23 international is making waves in his homeland. The son of legendary former Real Madrid ace Fernando Redondo, the 20-year-old has been talked up hugely by journalist Roy Nemer in the recent past, who said:

"If I'm Xavi and FC Barcelona, I am looking to bring in Federico Redondo. The kid is a mirror image of his father who is one of the greatest players ever in his position. With Busquets now leaving, Redondo is a great player to have for now and the future. Kid is something special."

At 20, Redondo could be viewed as a long-term option for Liverpool, and with Thiago possibly leaving at the end of this season when his contract expires, he could simply come in as a younger replacement, possessing the Spaniard's ability to break the line and dictate play.

If he reaches anything close to the level of his father, the Reds would be acquiring the signature of a very special player, and he should only improve in the coming years.

Not another Mourinho: Levy makes "genius" coach Spurs' top target

Fair to say it’s been an eventful season for Tottenham Hotspur supporters, but it could have the happiest of endings.

Spurs have lost 19 Premier League matches this season to date, one more would be their most in a single campaign since 1935, thereby languishing 16th in the table.

However, on Thursday night, the Lilywhites overcame Bodø/Glimt in the Arctic Circle, so will now face Manchester United in the Europa League Final at San Mamés on 21 May.

Thus, Ange Postecoglou is potentially 90 minutes away from delivering Tottenham’s first trophy since 2008 and Champions League qualification, but Sami Mokbel of BBC Sport believes the Aussie could still be sacked, even if his team triumph in Bilbao.

So, who does Daniel Levy have in mind as a potential successor, and could his dream candidate be a José Mourinho repeat?

Tottenham's top target to replace Postecoglou

According to a report by Gianluca Di Marzio, Fulham manager Marco Silva is top of Levy’s list to become the new Spurs boss this summer, adding that the 47-year-old is ‘very popular’ amongst the Tottenham hierarchy.

Manager Focus

Who are the greatest coaches in the land? Football FanCast’s Manager Focus series aims to reveal all.

As outlined by Dave Tickner of Football 365, there are numerous other candidates in the fray for this post, including Mauricio Pochettino, Kieran McKenna and Scott Parker, as well as Andoni Iraola, who, as noted by Jack Pitt-Brooke and Jay Harris of the Athletic, was the ‘leading candidate’ to get the job.

However, George Flood of the Evening Standard believes Spurs would face a ‘tough battle’ to ‘coax’ the Spaniard away from Bournemouth, hence why Silva now appears to be the front-runner.

Fulham managerMarcoSilva

So, would the Portuguese be a success in North London, or would he fare similarly to his compatriot who recently occupied the Hotspur hot seat?

Why Marco Silva would be a good fit for Tottenham

If ever a manager has burst onto the scene, Micah Richards style, it’s Marco Silva, first coming to the attention of a Premier League-watching audience in 2017 when he was appointed Hull City manager.

At the time, the Tigers were rock-bottom of the division, having won just one of the previous 18 games and, as outlined by Aaron Barton of Opta’s the Analyst, while he failed to keep Hull up, six wins from nine home games, most-notably beating Liverpool 2-0, caught the eye of others.

So, let’s assess Silva’s managerial career so far.

As the table outlines, after bouncing around Hull, Watford and Everton, Silva has really found a home in West London, winning the Championship title in 2022, on course to lead Fulham to a third successive mid-table finish, currently knocking on the door of European qualification.

For his work at Craven Cottage, Dean Jones of GiveMeSport has labelled Silva a “genius”, while Mak Pakhei of Total Football Analysis praises his tactical adaptability and flexibility, which allows Fulham to compete against the Premier League’s elite, doing so ‘without heavy investment’.

Fulham manager Marco Silva.

Meantime, as outlined by Nick Wright of Sky Sports, Silva and the aforementioned Mourinho are ‘old friends’, with the Fulham boss thanking his compatriot for changing how Portuguese coaches are viewed abroad.

Silva has previously been dubbed the ‘new Mourinho’, but their styles are very different, with Silva’s teams more attacking, proactive and on the front-foot.

Well, of course, lest we forget, Mourinho was Spurs manager for a period of time, but supporters would hope Silva’s potential tenure would go rather better, with Jack Pitt-Brooke of the Athletic outlining how José’s ‘defensive tactics…reactive training and repeated public criticism of the players’ in the media resulted in his downfall.

Despite the lazy, nationality-driven comparisons, Silva and Mourinho are very different coaches, and the current Fulham boss appears to have all the attributes to be a success at Spurs, potentially in charge of them for a Champions League campaign come September.

West Brom news: Major takeover claim emerges from The Albion Assembly

West Bromwich Albion are still in the midst of financial difficulty at the Hawthorns, though some big comments which aren't under the restriction of NDAs have emerged regarding their future as a club.

West Brom news: Sarmiento injury, John Swift comments, Plymouth Argyle fixture

Cited by Birmingham Live, West Brom boss Carlos Corberan has been talking about loanee Jeremy Sarmiento's latest injury as he looks to keep the exciting winger fit upon his return to first-team action.

Corberan stated: "When I brought him to the club I knew he was a player we needed to control what we do with him. The positive thing was he was adapting very well to the training demands, because if you don't train the player he's not ready to compete and cannot perform. If you are training a lot with the player – then he cannot compete either. So we were managing with a lot of detail every single thing with him. I knew after Millwall the risk to have what's happened right now would be there."

In a transfer report from the same outlet regarding West Brom midfielder John Swift, it has been revealed that the 28-year-old instructed his agents to block any late summer transfer window exit from the Hawthorns despite late interest from the likes of Sky Bet Championship side Coventry City.

Swift explained: "To be honest it was so late in the window, I had no idea of it and when it did come about I knew it was two days left and nothing was going to get done – and even if it did I didn't really want to leave. As soon as I found out I rung my agent and told him I didn't really want to go, I wasn't interested in leaving.

"I wanted to stay and had my head on staying whenever we finished the game against Swansea last season. That's how it is in football, some things come right at the end [of the window], but for me it was a no-brainer to stay."

Next up for the Baggies is a home test against Plymouth Argyle next Saturday in the English second tier as Corberan's men aim to move into playoff contention despite continuous problems off the field at the West Midlands-based club.

West Brom takeover news – Managing director Mark Miles

As per The Express & Star, Baggies managing director Mark Miles has issued some huge comments in regard to West Brom's proposed takeover that could provide some much-needed clarity at the Hawthorns over the future of the club. Speaking at The Albion Assembly, Miles indicated that processes concerning new partial investment from elsewhere or a 100% sale of the club to succeed Guochuan Lai are on track to be signed off on before next summer.

Miles shared an expected timeline, which unlike much of the chatter around the deal is not under an NDA: "MM (Mark Miles) confirmed there were currently NDAs in place, which limited what he could say regarding investment/sale. However, he also confirmed he is speaking to a number of parties interested in investing in the club and expects this process to have concluded no later than the end of the season."

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan.

Speaking to West Brom News, columnist Dr Dan Plumley has given his own thoughts on when the Baggies could be taken over, as he said: "We know that these things take time in terms of a takeover, it’s never quick or easy, it will be one thing agreeing on a deal, but another thing getting it over the line.

"I think there is a time-pressing need for this given the state of the club, for sure, but I think it’s unlikely given everything we’ve seen that you would get a deal over the line by the end of the year. I think you’re looking into 2024 for that one."

West Brom continue to perform admirably on the field despite uncertainty reigning elsewhere at the club and supporters will hope a resolution can be found as soon as possible.

Every Premier League Deal in the 2025/26 Summer Transfer Window

The summer usually only means one thing in football: the transfer window. Whether your team is looking to right the wrongs of the previous campaign or hoping to enter a new era of success, all 20 Premier League clubs will be doing all they can to bolster their sides for the 2025/26 season.

For some, the transfer window came with an added distraction this year, with Chelsea lifting the Club World Cup title in the United States.

It will be a season of immense change on the blue half of Merseyside – and not just on the personnel side of things.

Of course, 2025/26 marks Everton’s first at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, and with plenty of players already heading out the exit door, we can perhaps expect plenty of new faces for David Moyes’ side, with the most high-profile arrival being Jack Grealish.

Leeds United’s first Premier League campaign for two years will see Daniel Farke looking to break his personal hoodoo of going straight back down after promotion.

The first official arrival at Elland Road this summer was Lukas Nmecha, with the forward returning to England on a free transfer from Wolfsburg. He has since been joined by centre-backs Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw and full-back Gabriel Gudmundsson, who cost the Whites a combined £30m.

Meanwhile, Sean Longstaff swapped St James’ Park and Newcastle for Elland Road and fellow midfielder Anton Stach has cost Leeds over £17m, with goalkeeper Lucas Perri arriving from Lyon. One of the most high-profile additions has been forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer, and he was quickly joined by Leeds’ most expensive signing of the window in Noah Okafor.

Liverpool Total spent: £407.2m

With a quiet summer last time around before becoming Premier League champions, it was a chaotic window for Arne Slot and Liverpool this time around, with Alexander Isak’s British record £125m transfer going through on deadline day.

Giorgi Mamardashvili’s arrival as a challenger to Allison was confirmed last year, whereas Trent Alexander-Arnold left early to join Real Madrid at the Club World Cup for a €10m (£8.4m) fee.

Florian Wirtz initially became Liverpool’s all-time record signing for £116m before Isak’s arrival, whereas Jeremie Frimpong replaced Alexander-Arnold and Milos Kerkez arrived at left-back. Having already tied Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to longer deals, the Reds have also splashed the cash on a new striker in Hugo Ekitike, spending more than £250m.

After a dismal 2024/25, Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have plenty of wrongs to right over the coming months and beyond.

Part of their mammoth task to return United to the upper regions of the Premier League is clearing out the deadwood, but there were also some major additions.

Matheus Cunha’s big-money switch from Wolves, Bryan Mbeumo’s £71m arrival from Brentford and £66.4m striker Benjamin Sesko will hand United a new look to their attack for 2025/26, whereas another new goalkeeper has arrived in Senne Lammens.

Fresh from securing Europa League glory, Tottenham Hotspur are heading from a season finishing fourth-bottom in the Premier League to the Champions League.

They have some prior business adding to this summer’s outlays, with Kevin Danso’s switch from Lens becoming permanent, while youngster Luka Vuskovic will join from Hajduk Split following a deal agreed in September 2023.

New manager Thomas Frank has also signed Mathys Tel on a permanent basis from Bayern Munich and Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, whereas Joao Palhinha joined on loan from the Bundesliga champions. After missing out on Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, Spurs then hijacked Chelsea’s move for Xavi Simons and signed Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG.

After an underwhelming season that failed to match the excitement of last summer’s transfer dealings, results will matter far more to the West Ham United faithful than whatever ensues over the next couple of months.

Graham Potter has some work to do to inspire his team to improve after Julen Lopetegui’s project fell flat, and the Hammers’ obligation to buy Jean-Clair Todibo has become active for £36m. Worth more than Duran: Emery struck gold selling "amazing" Aston Villa star

Aston Villa will be looking to pile on the Manchester City misery when the two sides face off in the Premier League this coming weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s men are going through an unusual crisis at this moment in time, with eight defeats picked up from their last 11 outings in all competitions, as Unai Emery’s men now wait eagerly to try to add insult to injury by inflicting another loss onto the reigning top-flight champions just before Christmas.

Emery will likely stick with Jhon Duran as the lone striker for this big clash at Villa Park, safe in the knowledge that the potent Colombian could cause the leaky Man City defence all sorts of bother.

Duran's continued Villa heroics

After all, the Villa hotshot has started his side’s last two Premier League clashes after only being utilised as an impact man off the substitutes bench prior.

He has justified those starts, with two goals picked up from his last two top-flight contests, which included this consolation header finding the back of the net last time out in a slender 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

As is stated above, that took Duran’s goal total for the season all the way up to 11, as Ollie Watkins begins to worry his once concrete first team spot is no longer so solid with the clinical 21-year-old around.

Amazingly, despite the ex-Chicago Fire striker’s value increasing all the way up to £33m off the back of these heroics – as per Transfermarkt – one former Villa man’s value stands higher than that right now, despite failing to settle in his fresh environment.

Aston Villa midfielderDouglas Luiz.

The former Aston Villa man now worth more than Duran

The player in question here is Douglas Luiz, who sealed a move away from the Villans this summer when Serie A giants Juventus forked out in the region of £42m to land his services.

Arsenal were also known admirers at one point looking at the Brazilian, but Thiago Motta’s men would be the side to cough up that sizeable fee in the end, after he had become a reliable mainstay at Villa.

He would instantly fit in at Villa Park after a spell in Spain with Girona, with three goals and three assists picked up as a daring midfield option during his debut season on English shores.

The 18-time senior Brazil international would only get better from this point on, with a further 19 goals and 17 assists accumulated across his lengthy 204 game stay in the West Midlands, as Emery even singled out the star as being “amazing” last year when rumours begin to circulate he could leave Villa behind.

Yet, despite the Spaniard waxing lyrical, Emery would have to deal with the heartbreak of losing his midfield ace when Juventus eventually came calling.

Now, with hindsight a very fine thing, Luiz should have stayed put at a club that clearly adored him, as he’s found his transition to playing in Turn extremely choppy.

Only starting two games for Juventus in league action so far, it’s clear from the table above the high standards Luiz was playing to at Villa have now escaped him, with injuries also troubling him in Italy to date.

Villa are the clear winners here overall, having banked that £42m wisely, with the likes of Youri Tielemans, Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana all also shining in central midfield in their former star-man’s absence.

The South American’s value still stands high above even Duran at the £37m mark, so not all hope will be lost that he can return to his tenacious best soon for Juventus, but he certainly would have envisaged the start of his career at the Old Lady to have gone smoother.

Aston Villa want to sign Duran replacement who's a "monster in the making"

Aston Villa would need a new striker if Duran leaves

Friedkin and Everton willing to spend £40m+ to sign new forward for Dyche

Everton have spent a lot of money on strikers in recent years and prospective new owners The Friedkin Group could be about to do the same.

Portuguese forward Beto, whom the Toffees paid Udinese nearly £26 million for in the summer of 2023, has scored just six goals in 46 games since his arrival from Italy. Moise Kean, who arrived at Goodison Park from Juventus for a fee of £25 million from Juventus, managed just four goals in 39 games before being sold back to the Old Lady. The less said about Cenk Tosun, the better.

Only the transfers of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have been what you would call successes. However, one is perpetually injured and has arguably lost his golden touch, while the other is now plying his trade with a Premier League rival.

Having only scored 10 Premier League goals this term, the need for Everton to find a prolific goalscorer is now bigger than ever. Don’t, and Sean Dyche’s side could very well find themselves in the Championship next season.

Brobbey wanted at Everton

According to a report from Spain, the man the Friedkin Group are eyeing up is Ajax’s Brian Brobbey. The Dutchman was Ajax’s outstanding player last term, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions, but he’s failed to replicate that form this season.

Brobbey has failed to score in 10 Eredivisie games this year, while he’s netted just two in seven games across Ajax’s other competitions.

His poor form, however, hasn’t worried the Toffees and their owners The Friedkin Group, who, according to Spanish reports, are willing to pay in excess of £40 million to bring Brobbey to Goodison Park.

The Spanish publication claim that Everton have faith that Brobbey, 22, could rediscover his best form on Merseyside and see the young striker as a long-term bet who could go on to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s top forwards.

Brobbey names dream transfer destinations

While Everton may want Brobbey, Goodison Park is not where he may envisage himself playing next. In an interview with HELDEN Magazine in the summer, the Netherlands international was asked where he dreams about playing next should he one day leave Ajax again.

He replied, per Goal: “Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, those are nice clubs. But, if I stay at Ajax, that is certainly not a punishment.”

Manchester United transfer target Brian Brobbey in Europa League action for Ajax.

Prior to that interview, Brobbey revealed to De Telegraaf that he had almost joined United in 2022. “Erik ten Hag called me and said that at United, my agent would get millions of euros and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary,” Brobbey, who at the time was still an RB Leipzig player, said, relayed by Football 365. “But our decision was clear: we wanted to go [back] to Ajax.”

Ten Hag handed Brobbey his Ajax debut in October 2020. Brobbey added: “Manchester United wanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause.”

Barron 2.0: Rangers could sign SPFL star who’s scored at Ibrox before

Glasgow Rangers manager Philippe Clement faces arguably the most important month in his role at Ibrox, as the Gers face seven fixtures which could make or break their season.

Five of them come in the Premiership, while the Light Blues take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League before facing Celtic in the League Cup final just three days later.

If the Belgian can somehow win both of these fixtures, it should give the Ibrox side a major boost heading into the January transfer window and the second half of the season.

Several of his summer signings are finally starting to shine for Rangers, notably Vaclav Cerny, who has scored eight goals and grabbed five assists since arriving in the summer on a season-long loan deal.

In terms of value for money, the signing of Connor Barron could well be one of Clement’s finest since he took over the club in October 2023.

The midfielder didn’t cost a single penny. There is no doubt that his performances will grab the attention of others over the next couple of years.

Connor Barron’s season in numbers

Before he even moved to Rangers, Barron was earmarked as a perfect replacement for the departing Ryan Jack, who was certain to move on when his contract expired at the end of the last season.

There was reported interest from down south, but Clement won the race to sign the starlet ahead of the new season, and it looked like a smart piece of business for many reasons. He cost nothing, had experience in the Premiership and, most crucially, his nationality would help the club with regard to European squad quotas.

The signing, then, certainly fit the bill perfectly. He has demonstrated exactly why so many clubs were after him during the summer, settling in with ease at Ibrox.

Barron has featured in every single match for the club this season, starting 21 of the 23 games, establishing himself as the first-choice midfielder in Clement’s system.

Domestically, he has been impressive in dictating play and circulating the ball. Indeed, Barron averages 67.8 touches per game, while averaging a pass success rate of 90% each match, showcasing his qualities on the ball.

Defensively, he has won 3.6 total duels, averages 2.2 tackles, recovers 4.2 balls and loses possession just eight times per game in the top flight.

In the Europa League, some of these statistics are even better. Across five continental games, Barron has won 4.8 total duels, averages 3.4 tackles and recovers five balls per match, indicating that he can adjust seamlessly to both domestic and European football.

These qualities suggest that the Scot could be a key figure for the first team over the next few years, which, in turn, will see his market value rise.

Clement will be hoping to make more signings like Barron, players who can settle in quickly and likely raise several million for the Gers when they leave.

Could the Belgian be targeting a repeat of his Barron masterclass?

Rangers could raid Aberdeen again

With the January transfer window opening in just a few weeks, it means the manager will be able to talk to players who are out of contract next summer.

This could see the club perhaps secure a few pre-contract agreements, and journalist Scott McDermott believes the Light Blues should raid the Dons once again next year.

“On January 1, he ought to be speaking to Aberdeen left-back Jack MacKenzie and getting him tied up on a pre-contract deal. Koppen wants Rangers to have more of a Scottish core.

Jack MacKenzie

“In years gone by it was common practice for them to suck up the best talent from other top-flight clubs – the likes of Nacho Novo, Kris Boyd, Ryan Jack and others. Abandoning that policy in recent years is another reason why they find themselves currently miles behind Celtic.

“Signing MacKenzie should be a no-brainer. The full-back is available on a free and highly unlikely to sign a new deal at Pittodrie.”

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

Like Barron, he would add some real quality into the team without costing anything, plus giving Clement another Scot in the squad, which is beneficial for Europe.

Just how good has MacKenzie been for the Dons this season, however? And is he worth targeting?

Jack MacKenzie’s stats for Aberdeen this season

The left-back has played in all but one of Aberdeen’s fixtures this term, scoring once and registering four assists in the process.

His performances even secured the player a call-up to the Scotland squad for the Nations League games against Croatia and Portugal in October, although he didn’t make it off the bench.

Despite scoring at Ibrox before in a 3-1 win in 2023, MacKenzie doesn’t actually offer too much of an attacking threat. He has created zero big chances and averages just 0.8 key passes per game, but his defensive skills are what could entice Clement to make a move.

Indeed, he has won 4.8 total duels per game while averaging two tackles and recovering 3.8 balls per match in the top flight.

This defensive ability has allowed him to become a key member of the Aberdeen side under Jimmy Thelin, especially as the club currently sits above Rangers in the league table.

Clement does have Ridvan Yilmaz and Jefte as options on the left side of his defence. Jefte will get better and better, but Yilmaz has suffered plenty of injuries during his time at the club. Could this see the manager move him on in January?

Adding another young Scot with a ridiculously high ceiling to his squad could be another transfer masterclass from Clement, allowing him to replicate the deal that saw Barron move to Glasgow.

Leeds received a welcome injury boost on the weekend against Coventry with the return of Ilia Gruev, Connor Roberts and Wilfried Gnonto to the matchday squad.

However, for tonight’s game with Sunderland, regular Ethan Ampadu, who has captained the Whites for the majority of 2024, is a “major doubt” due to illness.

This will come as a big concern for Leeds, with Ampadu yet to miss a minute of Championship action this season, starring in both midfield and in defence.

The summer signing has struck up a brilliant relationship with fellow Wales international Joe Rodon at centre-back since the injury to Pascal Struijk, so being without Ampadu would be a big blow.

Ampadu has also come in for praise from Farke during his first season in Yorkshire, with the Leeds boss saying earlier in the campaign:

“Overall a fantastic season, we are more than happy how he has developed also since we signed him.

“You couldn’t predict that it would work that smoothly and on this level when we signed him because he had also a few tough, tough years. But he’s doing exceptionally well.”

Man Utd want to sell Casemiro and replace him with “excellent” player

Manchester United reportedly want to sell Casemiro this summer and replace him with an “excellent” midfielder whom Bruno Fernandes admires greatly.

Man Utd manager & transfer news

The Red Devils could have one of their busiest summer transfer windows in recent memory ahead of them, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to make his mark, hopefully bringing in Dan Ashworth as sporting director at the same time.

There is also no guarantee that Erik ten Hag will be in charge once next season gets underway, following a poor campaign that could even see United miss out on European football entirely. A heavy defeat in the FA Cup final against Manchester City next weekend could potentially mean curtains for the Dutchman, although that remains to be seen.

Thomas Tuchel has been linked with replacing him in recent times, with the German confirming that he will be leaving Bayern Munich, but it appears as though Ratcliffe is still mulling over his decision.

In terms of new signings, RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko continues to be linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, with his agent reportedly at United's stadium recently. Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva is also seen as a target, but Liverpool are hovering ominously and looking to hijack the move.

Michael Olise is being backed to become a Red Devils player in the summer window, too, following another impressive season for Crystal Palace – one that included him scoring twice in the recent 4-0 win at home to Ten Hag's men.

Man Utd want "excellent" Casemiro replacement

According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United want to sign Benfica ace Joao Neves this summer, as they look to offload Casemiro at the same time.

The report says that Casemiro will likely "land in Saudi Arabia with his price set at around €30m", but the Red Devils are "waiting for a concrete offer before bidding him farewell". Meanwhile, Neves "has now become a priority", along with Olise, for that matter.

Joao Neves for Benfica

This is exactly the kind of business that United should be looking to do ahead of next season – replacing an ageing player who is past his best with a young star who has an enormous amount of potential.

At just 19 years of age, Neves has already become a key man for Benfica, making 33 appearances for them in the Primeira Liga this season, of which 27 have been starts. He has racked up an 89.9% pass completion rate in that time, as well as averaging two tackles per game.

Fernandes is someone who values his compatriot greatly as a player, with United's captain saying of him: "He is an excellent player and an excellent kid. He will have a bright future wherever he goes."

Neves could be the fulcrum of the Red Devils' midfield for many years alongside Kobbie Mainoo, with so much more to come from him. He has the ability to develop into a truly top-class player, so the idea of him in a United shirt is mouthwatering.
