Rubel was part of the reserves’ list, and is now in the main team after the allrounder picked up a back injury
ESPNcricinfo staff26-Oct-2021Mohammad Saifuddin, the Bangladesh medium-pace-bowling allrounder, has been ruled out of the rest of the T20 World Cup because of a back injury. Rubel Hossain, the veteran quick, has been moved in to the main squad from the reserves’ list as a replacement for Saifuddin and is now available for selection for Bangladesh’s next match, against England on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.Saifuddin, 24, played all of Bangladesh’s games so far, picking up at least a wicket in each of them, and also hit an unbeaten 19 in six balls against Papua New Guinea in the last first-round game at the World Cup. He played the game against Sri Lanka too, on Monday, proving expensive in his three overs – he took 1 for 38 – and not getting a chance to bat.His replacement, Rubel, is vastly experienced, having played 159 international matches including 28 T20Is, in which he has picked up 28 wickets with an economy rate of 9.45.Bangladesh, who got into the main draw of the tournament after a stutter, losing to Scotland before beating Oman and Papua New Guinea, have had a poor start in Group 1, losing by five wickets to Sri Lanka after a decent batting performances was followed by a poor show in the field. The game against England on Wednesday is, therefore, a key one for Bangladesh to stay alive in the competition, with matches against Australia, South Africa and West Indies to follow.
Fast bowler backed after injury setbacks, and will stay with club at least until 2023
ESPNcricinfo staff28-Jan-2022Toby Roland-Jones will stay with Middlesex at least until the end of 2023, after signing a contract extension that will take him into his 13th year with the club.Roland-Jones has endured an injury-plagued few years, including a knee cartilage injury that took four months out of his 2021 season, following back and shoulder problems that had limited his involvement since 2018.However, he reaffirmed his importance to Middlesex with a five-wicket haul against Derbyshire on his first-class comeback in September, and with Richard Johnson having been appointed as the club’s new head coach, Roland-Jones will remain a key part of their plans for the coming seasons.”I am absolutely delighted to commit to Middlesex Cricket for the next two years,” Roland-Jones said. “I feel hugely fortunate that my passion for the club and the game continues to grow, as it has since the day I joined, back in 2010.”The excitement and potential in this squad gives us every opportunity to return this club to the level it should be at, and I look forward to playing any part I can to make that happen.”With the appointment of Richard Johnson as First Team Coach yesterday, we have a high-quality coach returning to the club, and someone who has previously worked with and helped so many of our players in the earlier parts of their careers. I know the players can’t wait to get started under him, and I’m sure he returns as eager as we all are to bring the club success.”Related

Roland-Jones has made a total of 224 appearances for Middlesex across all three formats of the game, with a total of 545 wickets. His debut for the club came in 2010, when he picked up two five-wicket hauls in eight appearances, and in 2015, he made his maiden first-class hundred against Yorkshire at Lord’s.His place in club folklore was secured in the final match of the 2016 season, when he claimed a hat-trick against Yorkshire to secure the County Championship title. His final wicket completed a ten-wicket haul, and took his tally for the season to 54 at 28.22.The following year, Roland-Jones made the first of his four Test appearances, claiming five wickets on debut against South Africa at The Oval, but his hopes of starring in that winter’s Ashes were curtailed by the diagnosis of a stress fracture in his back.Alan Coleman, Middlesex’s head of Men’s Performance, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to agree this extension to Toby’s contract. He is a huge character in our dressing room, a great influence to the rest of our group, and a key player for us on the field.”We saw at the back end of last season what he is capable of as a player, just like we have witnessed for many seasons beforehand, and I am certain that we’ll be seeing much more of that over the next two seasons.”
After two campaigns of coming incredibly close but just falling short, next season feels like it could finally be the year for Arsenal to topple Manchester City in the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta's side came within two points of doing so last year, and while they produced a far better defence than the eventual champions, they scored five fewer goals than them, which is an area that can be improved.
Fortunately, over the last week or so, the Gunners have been linked with several talented forwards, and according to recent reports, they are interested in Bournemouth's inform poacher, Dominic Solanke.

However, while the Englishman proved his goalscoring ability last season, there is a feeling that he might not be of the level required to win the league, which cannot be said of another striker recently touted for a move to the Emirates.
Arsenal's striker search
According to a recent report from Italian journalist Gianluca DiMarzio, Arsenal are back in the picture regarding Napoli's Victor Osimhen.
Napoli star Victor Osimhen
DiMarzio has revealed that the Nigerian's potential move to Chelsea, which has been grabbing headlines in recent days, is now not going to happen and that while Paris Saint-Germain 'remain on the trail' of the superstar, 'Arsenal could also get back into the game'.
The journalist does not mention how much the experienced international might cost the North Londoners. However, reports from last week suggest that Napoli could still demand clubs pay his €130m release clause, which converts to about £109m.
It would be a seriously significant investment from Arsenal, but given Osimhen's quality, it might prove worth it, and he'd be a better signing than Solanke.
How Osimhen compares to Solanke
Now, given how well Arsenal played last season, the one thing they need their new striker to do above all else is put the ball in the back of the net or, at the very least, provide the pass for a teammate to do so. But out of Solanke and Osimhen, who comes out on top in this regard?
Well, while the Englishman scored more goals last season, it's the Serie A winner who unsurprisingly comes out on top over the last five years, and by quite some margin at that.
For example, since the start of the 2019/20 campaign, the "world-class" marksman, as dubbed by José Mourinho, has scored 94 goals and provided 24 assists in 171 appearances, which equates to a seriously impressive average of a goal involvement every 1.44 games.
In contrast, the former Chelsea prospect has scored 77 goals and provided 30 assists in 206 appearances, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 1.92 games, a significant portion of which were in the Championship.
However, it's not just in raw output that the former LOSC Lille ace beats out the Cherries star, as when you compare the pair's underlying numbers, he comes out ahead.

Ultimately, while Solanke proved he was a Premier League-level striker last season, it's clear from his underlying numbers and long-term output that he just isn't comparable to Osimhen. Therefore, if Arsenal find themselves with the opportunity to sign the Nigerian international this summer, they have to take it – he could win them the league.

An interest in film-making has seen James Anderson get involved with a Massai warriors team, hoping cricket can improve their lives
George Dobell30-Nov-2012Plenty of sportsmen end their careers with a trunk load of anecdotes about their adventures and exploits. Plenty have glamorous tales about exotic lands and far-flung destinations. Plenty come, play and depart without leaving a trace on the lands they have visited. Not many take the time to look around. Even fewer bother to lend a hand to those less fortunate. It is easy for the top players to become insulated from real life. It easy to live inside a bubble: surrounded by acolytes; staying in the finest hotels – this interview was conducted in the resplendent Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai – travelling in style and blessed with a team of support staff who cater for every whim. If the England squad were to add a spot welder and balloon animal maker to their travelling entourage it would hardly raise an eyebrow. It would be easy to lose touch with reality. It would, in short, be easy to become spoiled. But James Anderson is not that sort. He winces when he sees the police beating a path through crowds of spectators just so the players’ bus is not delayed. He winces at the crowd of beggars who sleep in the streets around the hotel. And, like most well-meaning travellers, his winces at his own impotence in the face of such inequality. It is easy to scoff at celebrities – and, for the sake of argument, let us call cricketers celebrities – who involve themselves in charitable causes in a somewhat clumsy but well-intentioned way. But it is surely better than the alternative. Being well-intentioned isn’t such a bad quality.Anderson hopes that his involvement with a new project – a film named about Maasai people in Kenya who are using cricket as a tool to educate, inform and unite – can, in a small way, make a positive contribution in the world. He hopes that it can, in a small way, even remind people of the virtues of cricket.”We are so lucky,” Anderson said. “We get presidential treatment wherever we go. When we go to and from the ground, you see the police hitting people to get them out of our way. We’re so privileged. It’s difficult to know how to react when you see these things. We’ve done some charity stuff on the last couple of tours. In Bangladesh, for example, we went to see a burns unit. It’s not that we think we can change people’s lives but maybe we can help in a small way.”The image of the game of cricket has been tarnished over the last couple of years. We’ve had the betting scandals and it seems there are always questions about the future of Test cricket.”So it would nice to try and help someone through cricket and show people that there are positive things that cricket can do. If we can send a strong message that might, in a tiny way, reach a small village, or a small tribe, that can only be good.”Anderson is, in many ways, an unlikely spokesman. He is a modest fellow; shy and softly spoken. He is about as unlike Bono as a man can be. But, partly thanks to the influence of his good friend Barney Douglas, the ECB’s video producer, he has grown increasingly keen on an intriguing project and knows he can use his public profile to help attract some attention to a worthy cause. Douglas is the director of while Anderson is the executive producer.
Whatever the future of the Maasai and their cricket team, it is surely admirable that Anderson is using his position with the game to shine a light upon those less fortunate than himself.
The pair first worked together on the Ashes diaries that were an unexpected delight of the 2010-11 series. Often a video that has been through the mangle of any official body has every drop of originality and humour squeezed out of it but, on this occasion, the good-natured wit of Anderson, Graeme Swann and, crucially, Douglas, who was very much the unsung hero of the videos, shone through. The process of coming up with ideas for the videos and the process of filming and editing the scenes planted a seed in Anderson that just might grow into a second career at some point.”I’m excited by it,” Anderson said. “I think I’ve a little bit of a creative side to me. If I enjoy and if it goes well, it maybe something I do in the future. I’m past 30 now so I have to think about these things. It’s great to do something a bit more fun and relaxed.”Getting on well with Barney has helped. We have worked quite closely together over the last couple of years. That was part of it. But then when I heard the story and saw what the film was trying to achieve, I was drawn to it. Now I’m trying to get the message out there and help promote the film. If there’s anything I do to help with the cricket sequences then I’d be happy to and, if time allows, I’d love to go to Kenya at some stage.”The film follows the fortunes of a group of Maasai individuals who have, rather wonderfully, formed a cricket team on the plains of Kenya. Not only that, but they have started to use the team and the sport of cricket as a tool to unite and teach their communities. So people who previously fought as rivals are now working together. And, in teaching the values of teamwork and personal responsibility, the team also hope to instil important messages about safe sex, female rights and community values. The Maasai cricket team hopes to tour the UK next year•warriorsfilmIt is a remarkable, and a remarkably brave, ambition. The Maasai community is male-dominated. Women have few rights – even to their own bodies – and HIV is both rife and stigmatised. In some cases children are married off in return for livestock or alcohol and female genital mutilation remains prevalent. These “cricket warriors”, as the film refers to them, feel education and change is the only way to secure a long-term positive future for their people.Cricket has given the team status in their community. Their peers are beginning to listen to them; schoolchildren, boys and girls, are looking up to them. But, in a hierarchical, patriarchal society, there is a real and sometimes fierce conflict between the traditional and the modern. There are no guarantees of a happy ending.”There are so many messages the game can give,” Anderson said. “Getting 11 random guys and getting them to work together, even though they might not get on and may be from very different walks of life, just shows how you can work with different people.”Douglas interrupts: “People in this team used to raid each other for livestock. They used to fight. But now they’ve come together. They want to be unified as a team.””Cricket has always been tagged as the gentleman’s sport,” Anderson continued. “That’s definitely still there. The game has changed and has probably become more competitive. Maybe there isn’t as much camaraderie between opposition teams any more. But the respect all players from all countries still have for the game is still there and it is never going to die out.”Anderson and Douglas hope the film will be ready for release in September 2013, but are still in the process of securing the necessary funding. For more information on the film visit the film’s facebook page or follow them on twitter. Celtic are back in Scottish Premiership action this afternoon as they prepare to travel away from Glasgow to take on St Mirren in the lunchtime kick off.
The Hoops progressed through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup last weekend with a 3-1 win over Hibernian, who they had beaten 2-0 in the league the previous week.
Brendan Rodgers is now preparing his side for a third Premiership match of the season and will be hoping to continue the team's perfect start to the campaign.
One player who has enjoyed a near-perfect start to the season is forward Nicolas Kuhn and the manager has a decision to make over who starts up front as part of the attacking three with the German.
Nicolas Kuhn's brilliant start to the season
The former Rapid Wien star may have left supporters excited for the new campaign after his return of two goals and one assist in a 4-3 win over Premier League champions Manchester City in pre-season.
So far, he has lived up to the promise that his pre-season performances created with goal contributions in all three of his appearances for the Hoops.
He started the term with a deflected effort against Kilmarnock after a surging run inside from the right flank on the opening day of the Premiership season.
Kuhn followed that up with a tap-in from close-range and then a short pass to Callum McGregor for his screamer from distance in the 2-0 win over Hibernian in the division.
Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn.
The 24-year-old ace was also a key figure in the win over Hibs in the League Cup with another goal and an assist, taking his tally to three goals and two assists in three competitive games.
Who Celtic should start at striker alongside Kuhn
Rodgers must now unleash Adam Idah for his second full debut at Celtic, following his loan spell at Parkhead last term, after his permanent move from Norwich City was confirmed last week.
The Ireland international came on as a substitute against Hibernian in the League Cup, with Daizen Maeda having started the game as the lone striker.
However, Maeda should be moved into the left wing position to allow Idah to lead the line as the centre-forward, as he has the potential to be a lethal threat alongside Kuhn.

As you can see in the table above, the 6 foot 3 ace caught the eye with his clinical displays in the Premiership during his loan stint in Glasgow last term.
Rodgers went as far as to say that the striker was "immense" for Celtic and his statistics back that up, which is why he should be unleashed from the start alongside Kuhn.
In fact, the pair have already shown signs of being a fantastic duo for the Hoops as Idah set up the winger for his first goal for the club in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in February, with the forward perfectly weighting a lay-off for the German ace to fire a shot into the corner.
Celtic in talks to sign £8.5m magician who's a Kyogo and O'Riley hybrid
The Hoops are reportedly pursuing a deal to sign the versatile attacker this month.
ByDan Emery Aug 22, 2024
With Kyogo Furuhashi dealing with a shoulder injury, Idah may be the only senior, natural, number nine available and should be handed his first start since joining on a permanent basis.
Manchester City are reportedly closing in on their second summer signing after Savinho, with personal terms agreed and a deal now close.
Savinho impresses as Man City cruise past Chelsea
Pep Guardiola's men made a winning start to their Premier League season on Sunday afternoon, picking up an impressive 2-0 victory away to Chelsea. The reigning champions were the better team for much of proceedings, and goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic sealed the three points.
Perhaps the most intriguing figure on show for City at Stamford Bridge was Savinho, who made his first league appearance for the club. Initially starting on the left wing, the Brazilian quickly swapped sides with Jeremy Doku, and his influence became far greater.
City's newest signing showed some lovely Riyad Mahrez-esque footwork on the right, cutting inside and using the ball in classy fashion, as well as completing three out of three dribbles. The 20-year-old also made three key passes, outlining his creativity, as well as winning five out of seven ground duels.
Sadly, Savinho's afternoon was cut short after he picked up an injury just before half-time, being replaced by Phil Foden, but it was still an extremely encouraging performance from the wide man. It is a surprise that he has been the only addition for Guardiola so far this summer, but a new update suggests that that is about to change.
Man City agree personal terms with 19-year-old
According to a new update from Football Insider, Manchester City have agreed personal terms with Divin Mubama, as they close in on his signing. The 19-year-old is without a club currently, having most recently left West Ham, but it looks as though he will join Savinho through the Etihad entrance door with a £1.5m compensation fee heading the Hammers' way.
West Ham striker Divin Mubama.
Mubama may not be the world-renowned signing that plenty of City supporters are desperate for after the exit of Julian Alvarez, such as Rodrygo, but he is an exciting young player who is wanted by the Premier League champions for a reason.
He made 18 appearances for West Ham at senior level, managing to chip in with one goal and assist apiece, while a tally of 58 strikes in just 91 matches for the Hammers' Under-18s and Under-21s combined says a huge amount about his ability.
Meanwhile, David Moyes had plenty of time for the young Englishman during his time as West Ham manager, saying of him: "Every time Divin has come on, I tell you what he does, he runs and he does the work and he doesn’t think twice about his effort or anything he does. Because of that, we’re growing to him all of the time. He’s done really well and I’m pleased."
Man City could sign "one of the best in the world" to replace Alvarez
He was crucial for his side last season
ByJoe Nuttall Aug 18, 2024
It could be that Mubama is loaned out immediately upon his arrival, in order to be a regular elsewhere this season, but either way, he should be viewed as an eye-catching addition who could grow so much from working under Guardiola and alongside some world-class footballers.
da fazobetai: Ending the transfer window with one last flurry of arrivals, Nottingham Forest have reportedly agreed a £12m deal to sign a defensive reinforcement for Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nottingham Forest transfer news
da casino: Forest have enjoyed quite the summer window, keeping hold of several star men whilst welcoming the likes of Nikola Milenkovic, Elliot Anderson and, most recently, Ramon Sosa. The young winger arrives to compete for a place in Espirito Santo's side alongside Callum Hudson-Odoi and former Manchester United ace Anthony Elanga.
Welcoming Sosa, Forest's Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson told the club's official website: "Ramón has been coveted by many clubs but was so clear in his desire to join Nottingham Forest.
"We could all feel his energy, emotion, pride and excitement to be here from the first minute he arrived. He can't wait to get started and we are delighted that he is here with us."
Breakthrough: Nottingham Forest agree deal to sign £35k-p/w ace after talks
The Midlands club are reportedly set to land their eighth signing of the summer…
ByTom Cunningham Aug 21, 2024
The Argentinian may not be the last signing that Wilson welcomes, following recent reports as the window comes to a close. According to Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade, Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement to sign David Carmo from Porto in a deal worth €11m (£9m) plus €4m (£3m) in add-ons this summer.
However, those at the City Ground will have to wait until 2025 to see their new signing in action in the east Midlands, with Carmo reportedly heading straight out on loan to Olympiacos, who are also owned by Evangelos Marinakis to make for a simple deal.
Porto defender David Carmo
Carmo, 25, spent last season on loan at the Greek club and will now return for a second consecutive campaign, before eventually making his way to Forest. By the time next season arrives, Carmo could emerge as quite the bargain at just £12m after a year's worth of minutes at Olympiacos, who he helped to Conference League glory last term.
"Important" Carmo could be worth the wait
Whilst he has struggled to make an impact at Porto, hence the loan move to Greece last season, there's a reason why they made history by sealing the first deal worth over €20m (£17m) between two Portuguese clubs when signing Carmo from SC Braga in the summer of 2022. Now, it's just up to Carmo to rediscover his best form as he prepares to make an impact at Forest.
The central defender earned plenty of praise prior to his Porto nightmare, including from journalist Zach Lowy, who described Carmo as an "important" part of Braga's backline.
Porto's loss, which looks set to be around £5m this summer, may yet prove to be Forest's gain. At 25 years old, it wouldn't be absurd to suggest that there's still every chance Carmo plays his way back into form in the current campaign.
