Knows Hudson-Odoi: Nottingham Forest considering move to sign £20m+ star

Nottingham Forest are considering making a move to sign a “skilful” £20 million star in the summer, according to a new report.

Nottingham Forest transfer news

The Reds have nine games to go in the Premier League to fulfil their dream and secure a place in next season’s Champions League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been outstanding all campaign, with midfielder and captain Morgan Gibbs-White at the heart of that.

His performances have caught the attention of some of the big teams in the Premier League, but according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Forest will “do everything they can” to keep hold of the Englishman this summer. O’Rourke goes on to add that securing Champions League qualification will put the Reds in a stronger position to retain their best players.

As they look to keep hold of Gibbs-White, according to TEAMtalk, Forest are keeping a close eye on Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham ahead of the summer.

Forest are among the Premier League teams keeping a watchful eye on the Black Cats midfielder and could be ready to pounce should Sunderland fail to seal promotion. However, the Championship side are not looking to sell or negotiate with any team, meaning a big offer may have to arrive for them to be tempted.

Nottingham Forest considering move to sign £20m+ star

It is not only a new midfielder the Midlands side want, as according to reports from Italy, relayed by Sport Witness, Nottingham Forest are weighing up a move to sign defender Fikayo Tomori from Italian giants AC Milan.

AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

The report claims that there is a concrete possibility that Milan look to sell the English defender this summer as long as they receive a €25 million transfer fee, which is roughly £21 million. Forest are keeping an eye on his situation, but they are not alone, as Newcastle United are also weighing up whether to make a move or not.

However, they may hold a small advantage, as Tomori already knows two Forest players in Ola Aina and Callum Hudson-Odoi, as he played with the pair at Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Tottenham could also be potentially interested in a deal for Tomori after they looked to sign the centre-back during the January transfer window. The Italian giants already have in mind replacements for Tomori should he leave the San Siro.

The 27-year-old has been with Milan since July 2021, and while he was an instant regular in the team, this season he has lost his place, playing just 14 times in Serie A. Despite the disappointment of this season, Tomori has been largely successful in Italy, with him being described as a “skilful” defender by Franco Baresi.

He previously told The Daily Mail: “He is young and has played well so far when he’s had the chance. He is skilful and has great physical attributes. He is still adapting to the Italian league, and I think he can only grow as a defender and help us out.”

£25k-p/w Nottingham Forest star being targeted by PL rivals with Murillo

Nottingham Forest may have their work cut out keeping hold of their stars this summer, with a player who has been “superb” this season now being targeted by a Premier League rival, according to reliable reporter Ben Jacobs.

Forest pushing for the Champions League

After the shock 5-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth at the end of January, Forest got their push for the Champions League back on track with a 7-0 battering of Brighton & Hove Albion in their last Premier League outing.

The Tricky Trees now find themselves six points clear of fifth-placed Manchester City, having surpassed all expectations this season, and there is a real possibility they could qualify for Europe’s elite competition.

The only downside that comes with the remarkable overperformance is the fact some of Nuno Espirito Santo’s key players are now being targeted by Europe’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool and Real Madrid keen on signing Murillo as a result of the defender’s impressive displays this season.

Murillo is not the only player being targeted by one of Forest’s Premier League rivals, however, with reliable reporter Ben Jacobs telling GiveMeSport’s Market Madness podcast that Newcastle United are keen on signing Anthony Elanga.

Jacobs said: “Absolutely [Newcastle will sign a right winger]. Put your mortgage on it. They’ve got to replace Miguel Almiron. Amongst others, they still like Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga.”

The Magpies were also plotting a move for Elanga before the January transfer window, at which point a deal wasn’t possible, with the Tricky Trees presumably unwilling to sell an important player mid-way through what could end up being a memorable season.

Elanga enjoying a "superb" season at Forest

It is little wonder the winger is attracting the attention of Forest’s Premier League rivals, given the level of his performances this season, receiving praise from BBC Sport reporter Simon Stone for the way he has kicked on since leaving Manchester United.

The Sweden international has three goals and eight assists to his name in the Premier League this term, following up an impressive debut season at the City Ground.

With the 22-year-old contracted until 2028, Nuno’s side should be in a strong negotiating position, and there is also a decent chance they will finish above Newcastle this season, considering they are currently six points clear.

If Forest were to qualify for the Champions League at Newcastle’s expense, it seems unlikely Elanga would pursue a move to St. James’ Park, but Forest should still be wary of the Magpies’ interest, as losing the £25k-per-week forward would be a major blow.

Man Utd now make new approach to sign £50m "machine" to replace Casemiro

Manchester United have made an approach to sign a £50m-rated midfielder ahead of rival interest from both Liverpool and Manchester City.

Man Utd already eyeing Amorim replacements after poor start

The Red Devils have had a season to forget, which began under Erik ten Hag before they appointed Ruben Amorim. The current Portuguese boss is already under pressure in Manchester, though, with just five wins in 16 Premier League games and a place in the bottom half.

A number of managers have been linked with replacing Amorim at Old Trafford in recent days. Former Germany boss Joachim Low, Massimiliano Allegri, previously of Juventus and Unai Emery of Aston Villa are just three names mentioned to come in if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS bring Amorim’s Man Utd tenure to a quick end.

As well as looking at potential replacements for Amorim in the dugout, INEOS are also looking at the summer transfer window and possible signings.

Sky Sports have claimed that United are ready to bid £25m to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP after sending both Marcus Rashford and Antony out on loan.

Elsewhere, the Red Devils are thought to be in pole position to sign Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, with the pacey attacker another who could end up replacing one of Rashford or Antony.

In midfield, Man Utd are anticipating the departures of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, and it looks as if they may have identified the ideal addition to come in.

Man Utd make contact to sign Casemiro replacement

According to Caught Offside, Man Utd have made contact to ask for information over a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

The Brazil international isn’t just wanted at Old Trafford, though. He has been a top target for neighbours Man City, and Liverpool have also made an enquiry.

Atalanta want around £50m for the 25-year-old, and this comes after the Red Devils made an offer for Ederson last summer. Dubbed a “machine” by Football Transfers’ Carlo Garganese, South American football expert Tim Vickery also previously described Ederson to Sky Sports as a “strong, well-built central midfielder.”

“Strong on the ball, versatile, box-to-box. Strong personality as well. The first time I remember him was his professional debut really. He was thrown in the deep end in a big team called Cruzeiro, who were really on the slide. They were relegated in dreadful form and even in this bad context, he stood out, so a lot of virtues.”

Ederson, who has been a regular for Atalanta since 2022, has made the majority of his appearances as a central midfielder but has also turned out in holding and attacking roles.

A move to England and Man Utd in particular could be one to watch, however, should the Red Devils have no European football to offer next season, they could be at a major disadvantage.

Sam Billings signs white-ball contract with Kent

Former club captain drops red-ball cricket in attempt to find better balance

Sam Billings has signalled his intention to step back from red-ball cricket after signing a white-ball-only contract with Kent. Billings said that he had “tried juggling all formats” but had found it “very challenging personally” and had taken the decision ahead of the arrival of his first child. The contract extension, which runs until at least the end of the 2025 season, will see Billings captain Kent in the T20 Blast and also allow him to pursue overseas opportunities in franchise cricket, according to a statement by the club.”I’m delighted to remain a Kent cricketer for the foreseeable future,” Billings said. “Kent Cricket means a huge amount to me and I’m very grateful for the club’s openness and understanding during discussions around my future.Related

Bell-Drummond appointed Kent club captain

“In an ever-changing landscape of our sport, I’ve tried juggling all formats for some time and have found it very challenging personally on and off the field. With the addition of a child on the way it feels like the right time to try and find more balance so I can perform at my best whenever I pull on the Kent shirt.”As always, the support of the members and everyone at the club has been brilliant. I’m always most proud to wear the Kent jersey and represent the club at every opportunity. I’m thrilled to be the Kent Spitfires’ T20 Captain and I’m looking forward to focusing on that format in 2024 and beyond.”Billings has played three Test matches for England, most recently in the summer of 2022, as well as being capped 65 times in limited-overs internationals, but is set to spend an increasing amount of time maximising his opportunities to play in T20 leagues.Despite being Kent club captain, he made himself unavailable for selection in the County Championship during the 2023 season after experiencing a trough of form with the bat that saw him average 9.20 from six matches. He subsequently stood down from captaining the red-ball side, with Daniel Bell-Drummond appointed as his successor.Billings, who led Oval Invincibles to their first Hundred title last summer, is currently in action in the Big Bash League with Brisbane Heat and will be among the English players up for auction in the IPL next week.In first-class cricket, he scored 3628 runs in 88 matches, with six hundreds and an average of 31.27.Simon Cook, Kent’s Director of Cricket, said: “This new agreement reflects a mutual commitment from both Kent Cricket and Sam to navigate a fast-changing cricketing world.”He is a well-travelled and well-respected player that has spent a lot of time overseas, winning the biggest prizes in T20 cricket, and building relationships with players who have in turn become Kent Spitfires off the back of his off-field work.”Sam is an outstanding white-ball cricketer and we’re extremely pleased that he will be a Spitfire for at least another two seasons.”

Man Utd now want to sign "powerful" £50m star who is Tottenham's top target

In what would see them get one over on their top six rivals, Manchester United are now keen to sign an attacking star who’s currently Tottenham Hoptspur’s top target this summer.

Man Utd and Spurs battling on and off the pitch

So much of Manchester United’s season has mirrored Tottenham’s. Both find themselves languishing in the bottom half, both have been left to rely on the Europa League for any chance of turning their season around and both are now in desperate need of summer reinforcements. When the summer transfer window does arrive, it would also come as little surprise if the two ‘big six’ sides found themselves operating in close quarters, either.

After admitting that nothing could turn their season around, Ruben Amorim will at least be hoping that the lure of Old Trafford is still enough to see the Red Devils secure their targets ahead of the likes of Spurs even in Manchester United’s current state.

On that front, the rumours are already coming thick and fast. According to Caught Offside, Manchester United now want to sign Antoine Semenyo in a move that would see them beat Spurs to their top target this summer. The Lilywhites are even reportedly lining up a bid worth €40m (£34m) to sign the winger Bournemouth value at £50m ahead of the transfer window.

Sold by INEOS, now outscoring Zirkzee: Man Utd must rue losing £25m "hero"

Man Utd may wish they kept hold of this star

ByJoe Nuttall Mar 7, 2025

That doesn’t look set to discourage United, however, who caught a first-hand glimpse of Semenyo’s quality earlier this season when he scored in a stunning 3-0 victory for Bournemouth. Handing Noussair Mazraoui a torrid time, the versatile full-back ended the defeat with just five defensive actions and a 50% duel-success rate.

Semenyo, meanwhile, found himself wheeling away in celebration after scoring the final of his side’s three goals to stun Old Trafford just after the hour mark.

"Powerful" Semenyo has earned big move

Whilst there would be plenty of irony involved if Semenyo set his sights on a big move this summer and found himself at a club currently on a crash course hurtling towards a bottom half finish, Manchester United’s name still carries plenty of weight. As they look to rebuild under Amorim, picking apart sides like Bournemouth would be a good place to start.

Antoine Semenyo scores for Bournemouth

Semenyo has certainly earned a chance to move onto a top six side too, scoring nine goals and assisting another five in all competitions for the Cherries so far this season. Receiving plenty of praise as a result, analyst Ben Mattinson dubbed the winger the “perfect instant-impact winger” who also possesses “powerful ambipedal ball striking”.

Semenyo certainly looks likely to have a decision to make this summer, but whether that results in a trip to Old Trafford remains to be seen.

Edwards: 'We were miles off the pace, to have pulled it off is remarkable'

Southern Vipers coach hails turnaround in form that captured latest trophy of stellar career

Valkerie Baynes24-Sep-2023Charlotte Edwards’ mum called it “a miracle” but in truth, Southern Vipers had it coming, even if it didn’t feel like it at times this season. The first team to claim the domestic double, with a convincing five-wicket win against Blaze in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Final at Northampton on Sunday, has been building a juggernaut under the guidance of a coach who has also won the inaugural Women’s Premier League title and the Women’s Hundred in the space of six months. But while the prospect of winning both the 20-over competition which bears her name and the 50-over title was prominent during Vipers’ 2022 campaign, when they won the former but lost the final of the latter as Northern Diamonds prevented them from winning a third RHFT in a row, this achievement came against the backdrop of an unremarkable start to the season which saw them ranked fifth when the competition paused in August for the Hundred.Related

How Edwards steered Southern Brave to a third straight Hundred final

Windsor ties knot on Southern Vipers domestic double

Vipers won their last five group games, including three after the mid-season resumption, to qualify directly for the final, in which they defeated the same opposition as in the Charlotte Edwards Cup title decider in June.”I just can’t believe it,” Edwards said. “To think that the team has played the way they have done, stood up when they needed to. We were miles off the pace, if I’m honest. I just felt we had the momentum coming into today, but finals are finals and you never quite know. To have pulled this off is quite remarkable, as my mum says, ‘a miracle’.”It was Edwards’ 11th final and seventh trophy in 12 campaigns as coach – and she isn’t finished. After a 10-day break, she will head to Australia to join up with Sydney Sixers for the upcoming WBBL, where her side will be looking to go one better than last season’s runners-up finish.”I’ve got good players, good staff, good people, and people who are committed and are winners,” Edwards said of her successful teams. “When I recruit, I look at the character.”A case in point is Emily Windsor, whose match-winning 57 off 53 balls on Sunday was typical of what Edwards described as her effectiveness, smarts and “big heart”. Two years ago, Windsor had played a similar knock when Vipers defeated Northern Diamonds at the same ground for back-to-back RHFT titles.Windsor was well supported on this occasion by Freya Kemp, one of three 18-year-olds in Vipers’ Final line-up , alongside Ava Lee and Mary Taylor, which proves that Edwards is also building for the future. Kemp was making her return as a batter only during this domestic season after a back stress fracture interrupted a promising start to her England career as an allrounder.Freya Kemp and Emily Windsor leave the field after Southern Vipers won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy Final•Getty Images”That is as good as I’ve seen her play, and for England that is a massive highlight,” Edwards said of Kemp. “Once she gets bowling again, she will be one of the best allrounders in the world.”I just prepare the team as best I can. If we’d lost today, it wouldn’t have made me a good or bad coach; that’s what coaching is about – preparing the players and hopefully getting the reward for the players when they do well like that. It is something special. Watching Kemp bat like she did was the highlight of my season.”Windsor was also full of praise for her batting partner, with whom she shared an unbroken stand of 94 for the sixth wicket after Vipers had slipped from 100 for 2 to 109 for 5.”She has the most unbelievable amount of talent, and I think we’ve seen that,” Windsor said. “Early on in the innings, I was saying to her: ‘Let’s be there at the end, mate; let’s be the ones who do this.'”How she played is probably the best I’ve seen her play. She played with maturity, at points she was telling me to calm down, which is a challenge for her. It is really special for her to be there at the end; she probably should have hit the winning runs.”It was Windsor who completed the job with a four over deep extra cover off Kirstie Gordon.”I don’t know what it is, but throughout my career, when it’s been tough and when there’s pressure on, my game has just seemed to go up a gear,” Windsor said. “But I think when I was out there today, I just wanted to do it for the team. It has been a special year for this group; the squad and all the playing staff have dug so deep just to get us to this position. To go straight through to the final, we couldn’t even believe that. To win it is probably the most special that we have done.”Windsor also paid tribute to her coach: “For me, Lottie just gets the best out of every player that she has in her team. She treats everyone as individuals. She gets to know her players on and off the field, and she knows what makes us tick.”That is why teams perform for her: people love playing for her, it’s a great environment. She just always finds a way of making things fun and getting the best out of her players. It is an absolute pleasure to play under her. Her knowledge of the game is pretty phenomenal, and the experiences that she has had.”

New Zealand stick to their guns as third defeat loosens grip on semi-finals

In the larger context, New Zealand have had a typical campaign in the World Cup so far. They have made the best use of their resources despite injuries, they have been solid in the matches that they were expected to win, and have won one out of the four that could have gone either way. In two of the three defeats, they ran pretty strong teams close. However, in two of those defeats, New Zealand have omitted to do things you expect them to do every single time. There were free hits and dropped chances against Australia in Dharamsala, and then some more against South Africa in Pune. One of the better readers of conditions, and thus good at deciding what to do at the toss, New Zealand received some criticism for not making South Africa do what they don’t like to do: chase.Battered and bruised with five of their 15 players injured by the end of the night, New Zealand are sticking to their guns in the knowledge that they still control their fate, and have still to play two matches that – on form – they should be expected to win: against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Winning even one of them gives them a fair shout at making the semi-finals.For starters, neither captain Tom Latham at the post-match presentation nor Glenn Phillips at the press conference had any regrets about deciding to put South Africa in. Latham said if he had a chance to live the day over again, he would still have decided to chase.Tom Latham shares a few words before walking out•ICC/Getty Images

“At the end of the day, we chose to do a toss what we thought was best on this pitch with the information that’s been given,” Phillips said. “And that’s what we go by every game. Obviously South Africa are incredibly strong batting first, but we’ve got an incredibly good bowling line-up and there was no reason that we couldn’t have restricted them to a total that could have been a lot easier to chase on there. Playing on at the end, I definitely thought it got better as well. So, I think had things gone slightly differently, we could definitely have come a lot closer than we did today.”We definitely recognised that they were playing the style of cricket that they wanted to play. But obviously, when any team tries to accelerate, you get opportunities. Obviously, Quinton [de Kock] had a little bit of luck today as well, which helps. And sometimes you need that as a batter. And then when that luck goes your way, the runs start to flow, things start to move a little bit, and once momentum starts changing, it’s hard to bring it back. So, a couple of things go to hand today. Maybe it looks slightly different.”The worrying part for New Zealand might be that it has now become more than “just a couple of things” not going to hand. Coming into this match, New Zealand had dropped more catches than any other side, and were bang in the middle of catching efficiency standings. While fielding has a limited impact on the game, and catching efficiency is not the ideal indicator of how well a side is fielding, New Zealand generally have these things covered. In Pune, Trent Boult went on to add two more drops to the list, chances that he would back himself to take most of the time.Related

  • South Africa smash England's World Cup six-hitting record

  • Rassie van der Dussen sets South Africa's tempo with another thankless century

  • What are New Zealand's semi-final chances looking like after three losses?

“At the end of the day a couple of tough chances were dropped, a missed run-out when his back was turned to the bowler’s end,” Phillips said. “You have no idea where Quinton’s actually standing. Obviously, he had a little bit more time than he thought, but at the end of the day, it’s not like we’ve been dropping straightforward chances or creating a lot of blunders in the field. We’ve definitely put a lot of pressure on the opposition in the field, and we’ve saved a lot of runs and obviously sometimes people drop catches and that’s just the way things go.”The injury situation might be alarming, and the losing streak might make things look more alarming than they should be, but you’d rather be in the New Zealand camp than Pakistan’s or Afghanistan’s. “It’s just two wins away, and that hopefully puts us in third or fourth place, potentially even second,” Phillips said. “So, I think if we can just keep sticking to our basics, what we do best on the field, everything will be all right.”We try to remain level-headed throughout everything, not ride the highs too high and the lows too low. So, I think for us, it’s go about our business as we’ve done the whole way through, just keeping things simple, sticking to what we do best. Obviously, England, Australia, South Africa … they all play a very aggressive brand of cricket and we’ve got our own brand and if we stick to it, we know that we’re fighters, we keep coming back time and time again, and when it matters most, we really put the foot down.”

According to Pickford’s longstanding position as England’s number one may soon be in jeopardy as Tuchel is considering alternative options. The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss likes Dean Henderson and James Trafford and could be set to give them a chance to prove themselves between the sticks for the Three Lions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Crystal Palace’s Henderson is one of the main candidates to replace Pickford, having enjoyed a standout season that culminated in an FA Cup triumph last weekend. In terms of clean sheets, only Brentford’s David Raya and Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels managed more than Henderson’s 11, a figure matched only by Pickford.

Trafford, on the other hand, is viewed as a long-term prospect but could receive opportunities sooner than expected. The 21-year-old played a vital role in Burnley’s immediate return to the top flight and was a star performer for England’s Under-21 side during their European Championship success.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Since making his debut for England in 2017, Pickford has featured regularly between the sticks for the Three Lions. He has amassed 75 international caps, and that total puts him level with Joe Hart and David Seaman for second-most England appearances by a goalkeeper, trailing only Peter Shilton’s record of 125.

    WHAT NEXT?

England will return to action next month with two fixtures that may offer Tuchel a platform to trial new options. The team is set to face Andorra in Barcelona for a qualifier, followed by a friendly match at home against Senegal.
